Aaron Campbell
Explorations of place and perception across real and imagined environments.
About
Aaron Campbell is an artist working across both digital and traditional media. With a background in drafting, web development, and 3D modeling, his early career centered on building tools and visual systems at the intersection of art and technology. After years spent creating digital experiences and interactive platforms, he returned to traditional studio practice, focusing on oil painting and fine art. His work reflects a lifelong dialogue between precision and expression, structure and intuition, blending technical discipline with a painter’s sensitivity to form, light, and narrative.
Influenced by Leonardo da Vinci’s lifelong pursuit of knowledge and his refusal to separate art from exploration, I am drawn to an approach that embraces new tools, ideas, and disciplines. I often ask what kind of artist da Vinci would be if he were working today.
Artist Statement
My practice has always been continuous, even as the tools have changed. Painting was my first language, and despite years spent working in digital art, serious gaming, and 3D printing, I never put the paintbrush down. As my career moved through different industries and across the country, I painted wherever I landed, often leaving works behind as I moved on. Those dispersed paintings mark time, place, and persistence.
My professional work in digital media and fabrication sharpened my understanding of structure, space, and systems, which now inform my approach to oil painting. I am interested in the balance between precision and intuition, control and responsiveness, and how a life spent making leaves traces, some held onto, others released. My work is not defined by medium, but by the act of making itself, carried forward through changing tools and circumstances.
