The Collector's Room

An artist studio and fine art gallery where original work is made, shown, and collected.

The Studio Gallery

The Collector's Room Fine Art Studio Gallery is a quiet room for local art, a place for paintings, mosaics, and crafted objects that reveal hours of study and care in every surface.

Within our historic 19th-century space in Green Gate Village, we focus on works that reward close looking: layered color, luminous materials, and thoughtful composition.

Current Focus

“Empress Theodora” Mosaic Study

Contemporary hand-cut mosaic inspired by the 6th-century original at San Vitale, Ravenna. Stained glass, gold glass, and mother-of-pearl on panel.

Visitors can view the work in progress and see the gallery’s values of study, precision, and patient craftsmanship brought to life tessera by tessera.

Inside the Studio

The Collector’s Room is an active studio as well as a gallery. Much of the work on view is developed on-site through sustained study, historical research, and patient handcraft.

Process

Works evolve through drawing, material testing, and repeated refinement. Visitors may encounter unfinished pieces, study panels, and experimental surfaces alongside completed works.

Materials

The studio emphasizes traditional and enduring materials, oil paint, stained glass, gold glass, stone, and hand-cut tesserae, selected for their optical depth and longevity.

Study

Historical works, particularly from the medieval and Byzantine periods, inform both technique and composition. The studio functions as a place of ongoing research as much as display.

Artists: Submit for Consideration

We place a strong emphasis on new and emerging artists. BFA and MFA students, recent graduates, and artists early in their professional careers are especially encouraged to apply.

We’re most interested in thoughtful work grounded in strong fundamentals, intentional process, and materials chosen with care.
